PupGut's analysis is built on the same fecal scoring framework used by veterinarians worldwide. The 7-point scale evaluates stool from hard pellets (Score 1) to liquid (Score 7), with the ideal range between 2 and 3.5.

Our AI goes beyond the basic score — analyzing color for signs of bleeding, bile issues, or malabsorption, and flagging visible abnormalities like mucus, parasites, or foreign material.

No — and it's not designed to. PupGut is a monitoring and triage tool that helps you understand what's normal for your dog and when something changes. Think of it like a thermometer: it gives you useful information, but it doesn't replace a doctor. For anything beyond routine monitoring, we'll always recommend consulting your veterinarian. PupGut actually makes vet visits more productive by giving your vet a documented health timeline.

PupGut uses the same visual markers that veterinarians assess during a standard fecal examination — consistency, color, coating, and visible contents. For these visual indicators, our AI performs comparably to trained veterinary technicians. However, we cannot detect microscopic parasites, bacteria, or other issues that require laboratory testing. We're transparent about what we can and can't see, and we'll flag when lab work is warranted.

All of them. PupGut works with every dog breed, mixed breeds included. When you set up your dog's profile, you'll enter their breed, age, weight, and any known health conditions. The AI uses this context to calibrate what "normal" looks like for your specific dog. Breed-specific baselines are available for Premium users and become more refined as our dataset grows.

Your dog's health data belongs to you. We don't sell individual data to third parties. Photos are processed securely and encrypted at rest. You can export or delete all your data at any time. If we ever use anonymized, aggregated data to improve our models, it will never be traceable back to you or your dog.
